How To Create A Website Creating a website has become a lot easier since back in the mid to late 1990's. If you are a beginner, it can be pretty overwhelming. What You Need to Build a Website 1) Domain Name The first thing you need is a "domain name". Also known as a "website name". So for example, if your name is John and you own a landscaping business; you could register a name like: JohnLandscaping.com JohnsLandscaping.com would be your domain name. When you register a domain name, you can register it from 1 year up to 10 years at a time. You cannot register a domain name more than 10 years currently.
Most people tend to register the .COM version of their domain name. But many people also register the other extensions so that no one else can copy their idea or try to take traffic away from them. Think about it this way. If you owned YouTube.com and you failed to register YouTube.net or YouTube.info and someone else did, then someone else could be taking away traffic from you. Many people around the world type in the other extensions on a domain name just to see what website is there. Another way to think about this is lets say if you owned Google.com and failed to also register Google.net. Don't you think that Google would be upset if someone else bought Google.net and put up an adult website. That would take away from the good brand name Google has worked hard to develop.
2) Web Hosting A website cannot exist without a web hosting. In simple terms, Hosting is the storage box where all the website files and images are stored so that the website can be seen on the Internet around the world. Just like if you owned a DVD movie, you would need a DVD player to watch the video. Website Hosting helps your website get shown on the internet. Website Hosting can be purchased monthly, but you can get great discounts if you purchase it yearly. If this is a business for you, then buying hosting for a year or multiple years is a good idea. Hosting prices go up each year and locking up a low rate now ensures you a great price in future years. 3) Web Building Software (Optional) The next thing you will need is some kind of Website Building Software. There are a few options for this depending upon your needs/goals and level of website building knowledge.
i) Website Template Software If you have never built a website before and you want to learn how, but you don't have any website builder software; then you can use our "Website Tonight" template builder. You choose from over 200 different templates, then just add your own text and upload your own photos and that is it! You can modify your website any time you want. There is no need for hosting because Website Tonight already includes hosting for you. Plus there is no need to know HTML because the Website Tonight software designs the website for you. This is the most popular website software builder program for newbies. If you have more questions about Website Tonight, just give us a call. ii) Advanced Website Software For those of you wanting to take your website to the next level and you have already been using a template program for a while, we suggest building your website with programs like DreamWeaver, Frontpage or Microsoft Publisher. These programs can be a bit more expensive, but these are the programs that most website developers use to create a website. There are other website software programs out there, but DreamWeaver, Frontpage and Microsoft Publisher seems to be the most popular. You can use any one you want, but Dreamweaver seems to be the most popular. You can probably save some money by purchasing it at either We actually use Dreamweaver to build this website.
iii) Custom Website Another option for you is a custom website. Many people don't have time to build a website themselves and would prefer for someone else to do it for them.
